OZWAY DESCRIPTION
Ozway is a News-to-Web
gateway, providing NNTP to HTTP translation. It is capable of
working with all standard NNTP compliant servers.
Starting
with version 4.0, Ozway is a a value adding news proxy/cache/satellite
server as well. It can be used as a news server in dynamic sucking
feed mode.
Ozway
makes access to the Usenet easy for novice users who are more
comfortable using a Web browser rather then a newsreader. It
supports browsing, search for relevant newsgroups, reading articles,
viewing and downloading multimedia objects using a Web browser.
Ozway
allows ISPs to offer their subscribers WYSIWYG preview before
download type of access to the USENET Newsgroups. This lets
users to download only the articles/images they really want.
It makes the Usenet simple, attractive and efficient for everyone.
OzWay
is a stand alone application that can run on any computer as
long as it has fast access to a standard NNTP server and is
accessible to the clients.
New
in Ozway 4:
- Ozway
4 can serve NNTP clients, as well as Web clients. Thus, it
is not only a gateway, but a value adding news proxy/cache/satellite
server as well. It can be used as a news server in dynamic
sucking feed mode. Ozway sucking feed is really dynamic.
Unlike some other products in "dynamic" sucking
feed mode, Ozway does not download articles unless asked by
a client. Downloaded articles are cached and re-used.
- Users
of Ozum, our news client, can have "the best of both
worlds" when reading news off Ozway. They can have all
the power of a dedicated newsreader plus view thumbnails of
images before downloading images. Also, Ozum downloads binaries
from Ozway in decoded format, saving about 30% of traffic.
- Some
minor improvements, such as selective filtering of articles
based on article size, and command line user account management
tool useful for adding/deleting user accounts "on the
fly" in automatic mode.
Please note that Ozway Light version available
for downloading from this site is limited to individual use
or groupware demo mode. If you are interested in full groupware
version, please send us a email.
OZWAY FEATURES
 |
Works with all standard NNTP compliant news servers.. |
|
Ozway can be used with any NNTP compliant news server,
even a remote one. Ozway appears to be just a client to the news server
it is working with, so, there is no need to change configuration of
the news server in any way.
|
|
 |
Built-in cache for articles and image samples. |
|
Ozway maintains a cache of
image samples it has previously delivered, and news
articles it has previously downloaded. This reduces
the amount of requests going to the news server by
serving them from the local cache.
|
|
 |
Groups access control.. |
|
Ozway can be configured to
give or refuse users access to particular newsgroups.
This feature is different from newsgroups screening
as different user groups can be allowed access to
different newsgroups.
|
|
 |
Traffic management |
Every user can have a traffic counter associated with
them, and a monthly downloading limit set. If they go
beyond this limit, they will be rejected connection
by Ozway
|
|
 |
WYSIWYG access to Usenet contents. |
|
Ozway users have the luxury
of the familiar “point-and-click” interface
that they are accustomed to using when browsing the
Web. Thumbnails of images attached to articles of
binary groups are available on request and users can
request downloading of the images just by pointing
to them and clicking. Alternatively, they can mark
the thumbnails they like and order downloading of
all selected images in one page.
|
|
 |
Flexibility |
Ozway can be instaledl on the same
computer where the news server is running, or on another
computer, or several gateways can be installed, working
off the same server – it is up to you to decide.
|
|
 |
Multilanguage support. |
|
All Ozway output pages are generated using HTML-like templates. These
templates can be easily changed to provide output text in the language
that your users prefer. This operation is easy and described in the
included manual.
|
|
 |
Customizable output. |
|
Output templates not only
give you a way to translate output into a local language,
but also allow you to give the pages a look and feel
consistent with your operations: change background,
insert images, links, custom text, even advertisement
banners.
|
|
 |
Flexible and transparrent access control. |
Once you have configured the
access rules and created user accounts on your news
server, you don’t have to do it again for the
gateway because it can be configured to rely on the
server configuration. In this case, the gateway passes
user information to the server and reacts according
to the server response. Alternatively, Ozway can perform
authentication functions.
|
|
 |
Newsgroups search. |
Users can locate newsgroups
of interest by searching the set of newsgroups available
on the server. First 100 newsgroups with names that
include the search string will be found and made available
for browsing as a page of links. |
|
 |
Newsgroups
screaning. |
The
gateway can screen newsgroups that contain certain strings
in their names, even if they are available on the source
server.
|
|
 |
Session to session persistent users' working sets. |
|
Once users have found their
preferred newsgroups among tens of thousands available,
they are able to include these newsgroups into their
“selected” set, and this set is stored
on the hard drive between sessions. Next time the
user ‘logs on’, they will not have to
search again.
